1951 Ford Country Squire Woody Wagon
As a true "woodie", assembly of the Country Squire was labor-intensive, requiring completion at three assembly plants. Initial assembly of the steel body was completed at the Dearborn Assembly Plant, with the incomplete body shipped to the Iron Mountain plant for the fitment of wood paneling; upon completion, the bodies were shipped back to various Ford assembly facilities for final assembly. For 1951, Ford outsourced final assembly of the Country Squire, contracting Ionia Body Company an assembler of wood-bodied station wagons for General Motors” – Auto Editors of Consumers Guide
This classic 1951 Ford Country Squire Woody Wagon is the recipient of an older restoration finished in Sea Island Green with red vinyl upholstery. The body of the car is mostly free of rust with only light surface rust on some lower panels and the underside. The paint has held up well with just minor imperfections, the wood appears to be original to the car and is solid. The chrome work maintains a great shine although there is some pitting throughout.
Open the door and you will find an upgraded gauge cluster, Kenwood stereo and Vintage Air controls along with the original style 3-rows of seating and slatted wood roof. Use the air conditioning or slide the rear windows open, either way you will get plenty of air.
Although maintaining its factory look, this Country Squire Wagon has been mechanically upgraded with a 289 cubic inch motor mated to an automatic transmission as well as a host of additional upgrades listed below.
Due to the aforementioned upgrades this two-door Woody Wagon is a pleasure to drive. Featuring three rows of seating, you can plan on taking the entire family wherever you want to go.
