Description

“Bavarian Motor Works was prohibited making motorcycles after WWII until 1948 when it brought out the single cylinder R24. It was followed in 1950 by the R25, which added rear suspension. The R26 was introduced with a new motor and many frame and suspension changes. The very last of the BMW shaft driven singles, the R27 introduced a rubber mounted motor. BMW produced 15,364 R27s before abandoning the shaft driven single after 1966.

The BMW R27 uses a 247 CC single cylinder air cooled overhead valve motor that produces 18 HP through a 4-speed transmission and a shaft drive for a top speed of 80 MPH. The bike weighed 357 LBS (wet) and the suspension included leading link front forks. It was considered a smooth, good riding single.” - www.bike-urious.com

This 1962 BMW R27 is a great local cruiser with under 22,000 miles shown on the odometer and believed to be correct. The Black paint with correct white pinstriping shows well although it does have some scattered imperfections (shown in images). This light, four speed motorcycle makes for great local cruiser and is easy to operate.

The single Bing carburetor was recently rebuilt, and new fluids have been added which makes this motorcycle come to a quick start and smooth idle. This BMW was used very little over the past ten years and could still use some minor tinkering. The current tires show signs of heavy dry-rot and need to be replaced before the new owner takes it for its first journey.

Whether looking for a classic motorcycle to tour your rural town or something nimble to negotiate the city this German motorcycle can do the job in style.
